This is some eye-opening stuff. In one of his recent posts, Mitch Joel showcases a video from Google where they go out in the Jay Leno “Jay Walking” style and ask people on the street a (seemingly) simple question. In this case the question is: What is a browser?

That’s kids table stuff, right? Everyone knows that, I’m sure. It’s not like we’re asking about dynamic style sheets or to explain the QDF piece of Google’s algorithm.

Just watch.

Sheesh. Like Mitch says, maybe this explains why we get blank stares when we try to explain how Twitter fits into a business plan.

Think about that the next time you’re trying to explain why you should create value by engaging your community, activating your base, and empowering your biggest fans through one-to-one interaction and brand transparency.

Saw this great video of Daniel Pink today and thought it was worth sharing. Absolutely worth watching the whole thing. The funny/sad thing is that we KNOW the way we motivate is wrong, but we keep hammering away at it anyway.

I just posted about this a little bit over at The New Necessary (my digital thoughts) and thought it was legit enough to expand on this here.

Yes, I know this is old news, etc. but it’s still pretty awesome. A lot of people have jumped on the “takes guts to be the leader” aspect of this and while it’s totally true, I like Seth Godin’s angle a little better.

Here’s my take: Yes you have to be brave to be the leader, yes it’s scary to be the first one, and yes it’s lonely waiting for everyone else, but this guy wasn’t worried about any of that. He was just trying to rock out. If people joined him? Fantastic. If not? No big deal, he’s still going to go at it just as hard.

It’s tough, when you’re doing something new, not to be concerned if everyone jumps on the bandwagon. “Guy Who Started The Dance Party” sounds much cooler than “Random Weirdo Dancing By Himself”. But in all honesty, sometimes it doesn’t matter.

Electronic Arts, Tiger Woods, and Jesus

No, it’s not the beginning of a bad joke. It’s a great story involving two of my favorite things, gaming and marketing, and could teach us all a thing or two. Here’s the details.

A little while back, a user named Levinator25 posted a video from the EA game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. The video depicted a glitch in which Tiger Woods hit a miraculous shot, dubbed “The Jesus Shot” …from the middle of a pond. Most companies would either A)be completely unaware of this video’s existence, or B)do absolutely nothing about it. Not EA, and with Tiger Woods himself, here’s their response.

Glitch? What glitch?
